My Work History – At A Glance

  • The US Naval Construction Battalion1987 – 1991 After graduating High School I joined the US Navy and joined the SEABEES, The US Naval Construction Battalion.

” With Compassion for Others We Build – We Fight for Peace with Freedom.”

I was attached to the First Naval Construction Division. NMCB. The First Naval Construction Division is the administrative and operational commands for six Naval Construction Regiments and two Seabee Readiness Groups, which encompass about 18,000 active duty and reserve Navy Seabees. These commands are responsible for Naval Mobile Construction Battalions, Construction Battalion Units, Underwater Construction Teams, Construction Battalion Maintenance Units and a Naval Construction Force Support Unit. Navy Seabees deploy around the world to provide construction support for U.S. forces as well as humanitarian assistance.

While employed as Asst. Supt. for Palmetto Construction we had a desperate need for a painting contractor. We just could not keep anyone interested in the painting work on the Island. I had done a lot of painting while I was in the Navy and was re-assigned by BHI Management to taking over all things painting.

Projects that I took on were (but not limited to):

In total, I along with my employees painted the Interiors & Exteriors of approximately 160 properties during my time on Bald Head Island.

We also received a #1 job award from Southern Living Magazine for our work in Killegray Ridge in June of 1994.

  • 1999-2001 Sole Proprietor – Stewart Painting. LLC

Worked exclusively for Kent Mitchell (CEO Bald Head Island Limited) under James Corrigan (Owner-Wrightsville Hardwoods) painting and re-painting Kent’s personal houses and commercial properties located on Wrightsville Beach, Oak Island and Bald Head Island. During this period I was required to work alone for the most part.

  • 2001-present Sole Proprietor – RoomPainter.Com

Relocated to Raleigh to be closer to my Mother and Father who are retired and getting up there in age. I wanted my children to have a good, close relationship with them which was impossible living in Wilmington. Currently, I still work solo for the most part and enjoy the benefits of getting to know a lot of good people here in Raleigh.

  • North Carolina Painting and Decorating Contractors Association1994 – present Product Standards Writer and Senior Board Member – North Carolina Painting and Decorators Contractors Association NCPDCA.
